The Woodshed

The Woodshed (Woodshedding) taken on my Galaxy Nexus

The term woodshedding in jazz
and blues music means more
than just practicing. It is also a
recognition of a deep need to
sequester oneself and dig into
the hard mechanics of the music
before you can come back and
play with a group in public.

This applies to not only music
but whatever your chosen art
may be. To sharpen that axe
you need to put the time in. A
half hour a week just does not
cut it. If anything 15 minutes a
day does more for your skill to
grow than anything.

Spend the time in the woodshed
and you will emerge from there
sharper and stronger from it.
The ones whose work you have
admired have done the same
time honored tradition.

I myself and in the throes of a
nice session in the woodshed.
Regaining and also upping my
guitar chops and singing, but
also in a songwriting mode.
With the aim of releasing new
music this summer. The photo
above I took reminded me of
this and immediately thought
that this would be perfect for
the post.

What is your love / interest
that you have not given the
time that it deserves? Would
you benefit from a good stay
in the woodshed?

Remember to keep.....

Living out Louder
