Hitting the Wall

Hitting the Wall

"Do not let the fire go out,
spark by irreplacible spark,
in the hopeless swamps of the
approximate , the not-quite,
the not-at-all.

Do not let the hero in your soul
perish, in lonely frustration for
for the life you deserved, but
have not been able to reach.
Check your road and the
nature of your battle. The world
you desired can be won, it exists,
it is real, it is possible, it is yours.
Ayn Ran
Atlas Shrugged

If you have been a reader here
for long, you know that I like to
quote from Ayn Rand from time
to time. This is one of my many
favorite quotes of hers if i ever
hit a wall.

Have you come up against a wall
suddenly and feel like there is
nothing left to do? Whatever it
is that your gunning for whether
it is a New Years resolution to
lose weight or a financial or job
goal that you are aiming for you
may feel like you have hit the wall.

As the legendary Dusty Rhodes
have said, "There is no way out
but to get out!"

Rings true, wishing is just a mere
fantasy. Action will make take
those dreams and turn them into
reality.

Whatever you do remember, if you
hit that wall, action is still needed
more than ever!

Crawl, scratch, dig, keep it going.
Swing that hammer with more
determined blows. You will start
to make a dent. You will begin to
break through.

Now is more important than ever
to remain open to the possibility
that things can and will change
with the goal in your mind and
that hammer in your hand.

Remember to keep...

2012 Year in Review and Moving Forward.

Good Morning, Afternoon or Good
Evening wherever you may be. I want
to Thank you for stopping by our site
today. I do hope that it finds you in
good spirits. Today's post is our 2012
year in review and moving forward
into 2013 and beyond.

Lots of changes and shake ups have
happened. Our site really picked up
steam when I introduced my 90 Day
Challenge to the public back in May.
A Challenge that I started in Feburary
and as of this writing have lost a total
of 48 pounds of bodyfat.

Have forged a lot of friendships because
of that and with a ton of emails and
private messages of their own body
transformations have been nothing
short of inspiring!

Where my little blog / website was
being hardly viewed at all in the
first few months of 2012 has now
been viewed in every major country
in the world. From Brockton, MA
to Israel, India, Australia, Germany,
and Sweden, Greenland and to all
parts in between. To be able to reach
and talk to so many different people
is amazing. Never dreamed that could
be possible. For that I thank you!

The tail end of 2012 has also seen the
end of my marriage. 20 years and
the towel has been thrown in. For
both of us to continue to evolve and
be happy, this had to happen. Endings
only happen so new bolder and braver
beginnings can start.

What has not worked for you this year
to reach and get closer to your goals,
discard it and look for a brand new
approach. I believe, what you choose
to focus on comes back to you!

Moving Forward 2013
Will see the start of the 90 Day Challenge
come January 1st. (More on that this week)
A permanent address to call home, also
I think I may have told only one person, but
hope to also finish a planned e-book. To
also get certified in one on one personal
training and group training. Lots of great
things coming up on the horizon and am
excited to get those realized.

Most of all will be to also get to know you
much more, after all we are in this together!

How was your year? And moving forward
what are you excited about the most
for 2013?

Remember to keep....

Incision Indecision...

Good Morning, Afternoon or Good
Evening wherever you may be.
Thank you for stopping by our site
today to read our new post. I do
hope it finds you in good spirits.

Choices are all around us. What we
decide upon, good or bad makes us
who we are. Now that's not to say
the past makes up entirely who we
are, but of this thing we always hear
about,this thing called karma.

What we decide.

What we choose to do attracts
back onto us.

I am a firm believer in this.

A robber or moocher will not escape
the choices he has made of
dependancy, guilt and of what lady
luck may give him.

The emotional eater will not escape
the effects of the high empty calories
and high sugared foods that will
wreak havoc on their bodies.

But so the kind heart that shares their
love of the world and the people in it
will not escape that either.

The hard worker who thinks for
themselves and make things happen
because the pursuit of their highest
ideals is their character is also
inescapable.

Choose wisely.

Get off the fence.

Whats for you or against you.

Remove the procrastination

and Incision Indecision.

I want to Thank you again for stopping
by here today. I do hope it helps you
in some way on your own journey.
What are you procrastinating about?
What do you want to decide on once
and for all? Remember to keep.....

Television, can you cut some time out?
Maybe DVR to watch later?

Eating when angered, depressed or bored?
Maybe chomp on a celery?

Checking emails or notifications?
Couldn't that wait till later on?

What are you willing to do to get what you
really want? What is The Ultimate Sacrifice
to get shit done?!

You tell me!

What are you going to do?

The Raising of Cortisol...

Good Morning‚ Afternoon or Good Evening
wherever you may be. Thank You for stopping
by here today to read our new post. I do hope
that it finds you in good spirits.By todays title
and picture you may think of this as some sort of
demoned tale of possession. It is of sorts, but
we're going to touch upon ways if Cortisol ever
gets it's claws into you how we can exorcise them!

Now this is not a spirit of course but a hormone
that when raised has terrible effects on the body!
Cheif among them is the storing of body fat.

So what are some of the ways that this hormone gets
raised? Sugar, large steady doses throughout the day, it
can be found in the energy drinks, snacks, pastries and
soda just to name a few. If it was processed and was on a
conveyor belt chances are it is filled with sugar or an artifical alternative so that it tastes good. When these large amounts of sugar enter, your Cortisol levels rise and the body has no
choice but to store it as body fat!

Other ways this happens is through stress. When the body is in a state of stress Cortisol comes in and multiplies and reaks havoc on the body. Sleep is also another invitation or really the lack of it that will evoke Cortisol to raise its ugly head. These two, stress and not getting enough sleep are very related to each other!

So in review cut or eliminate all your sugar intake. Get six to eight hours of quality sleep and avoid any onset of stress when possible. We cannot control what happens around us as much as we would like to but we can control how we react and approach every situation!

I want to Thank You again for stopping by here again and that I hope this has helped you in some way on your own journey. Any questions or comments on this or any of the other posts? Type them in the comments section below, we will answer them as fast as we can! We are all in this together. Sales in our Living out Louder aStore has been brisk! The 13 Virtues of Benjamin Franklin...

Benjamin Franklin

Good Morning, Afternoon or Good Evening wherever you may
be. Thank You for stopping by our site today. I hope this finds
you in good spirits. I wanted to share with you today my findings
upon reading the Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin. There
are many highlights within the book that I may write more about
in the future, but, todays post will be on what he would have
published "The Art of Virtue".

Benjamin Franklin conceived a bold and arduous
project of arriving at moral perfection. His intention being to
acquire the habitude of all these virtues. His thought process was
of widdling down these to 13 Virtues with very short precepts
attached to them. Here I will list all of them.

1. TEMPERANCE.- Eat not to dullness; drink not to elevation.

2. SILENCE.- Speak not but what may benefit others or
                        yourself; avoid trifling conversation.

3. ORDER.- Let all your things have their places;
Let each part of your buisness have it's time.

4. RESOLUTION.- Resolve to perform what you ought;
Perform without fail what you resolve.

5. FRUGALITY.- Make no expense but to do good to others or
                              yourself; that is, waste nothing.

6. INDUSTRY.- Lose no time; be always employed in something
useful; cut off all unnecessary actions.

7. SINCERITY.- Use no hurtful deciet; Think innocently and
justly; and, if you speak, speak accordingly.

8. JUSTICE.- Wrong none by doing injuries; or omitting the
                       benefits that are your duty.

9. MODERATION.- Avoid extremes; forbear resenting injuries;
So much as you think they deserve.

10. CLEANLINESS.- Tolerate no uncleanliness in body, clothes
                                    or habitation.

11. TRANQUILITY.- Be not disturbed at trifles or at accidents
                                    common or unavoidable.

12. CHASITY............

13. HUMILITY.- Imitate Jesus and Socrates.

He knew that giving all of these his attention at once to be
a distraction. So to make it a habit to master each one he made
a little book allotting a page for each virtue. Ruled each page
with red ink, so as to have seven colums, one for each day of
the week, marking each column with a letter for the day. Then
crossed these columns with tirteen red lines. Marking the begininng of each line with the first letter of the virtues. With black ink marking a spot upon examination any faults in regards
to the virtue of the week. Each week by order of virtues it would
be the goal by the end of the thirteen weeks to not have any
black spots.

I thought this was a very lofty and ambitious goal to undertake, as did he. But in the pursuit of them is where you find out more of yourself and that of others. I want to attempt
this for myself and give this exercise a worthwhile try for the
thirteen weeks it prescribes.

The book written by him was fascinating and left me wanting to find out more about him at much grearter lengths. You can find this Autobiography for free in Google Books, definetely
worth the read.

I want to Thank You again for stopping by today to read
our new post. I hope it has helped you in some way on your
own journey. Always remember to keep....

Dig Down Deeper...

Good Morning, Afternoon or Good Evening wherever
you may be. I do hope this finds you in good spirits. The
heat and humidity has returned in full force these last few
days in the Boston area, keeping cool whenever possible.
I want to thank you for stopping by our site today, todays
post is about Digging down deeper.

When starting out on some particular goals that you may
have set out for yourself, you may find that you are super
excited at the very begining but that soon wears out as time
goes on. Being very vigalante, you may ask yourself, "what
happened I was being so good?" That does happen to more
people than you think!

Lots of other things such as life may distract you for a day
or two then turns into a couple days. Perhaps even a smidgen
of success towards your goal may have made you lighten up
a bit.

To seperate yourself from others (even your past self)
you need to stop being easy on yourself!

That's when you need to start Digging down deeper in
yourself to keep the torch alit strong with the inspired goals
that you set out for yourself in the first place! Be on guard
at all times never allowing it to dim. Remind yourself that
the pain of giving up on yourself is much greater than any
of the pains of reaching for your goals whatever they may
be. Never losing touch with what you want in the end.

Imagine how you will feel and how you will look when
you do reach your goal will give you the ultimate strength
to carry you on down the finish!

Hope you enjoyed todays post, I do hope that it will help
you in some way on your own journey. What are some of
the ways that you dig down deeper to reach for your goals?
I want to thank you again for stopping by, strive for
Greatness and always remember to keep....

What can you do in 90 Days? (8/1-10/31)

Good Morning, Afternoon or Good Evening wherever you may be. Thank You for stopping by our site today and I do hope that this finds you in good spirits. Today is the last day of our 90 Day Challenge and as it's a time for reflection if you participated this is also a call to arms of sorts that tomorrow August 1st begins our next Living out Louder 90 Day Challenge!

If you were one of the ones that did participate I sure hope that you did well and seen some progress. I recieved alot of emails throughout the process and was very inspired to carry on even further on my own journey of transformation. As it stands my total
body fat loss is at 36lbs. And I have much more work to do as I stated about a week ago I was thinking another 12-15 of body fat to lose but I'm now thinking it may be another 20lbs of body fat to lose. So that's my goal for the next 90 Days. Of course adding much more muscle in the process!

Whether you participated before or not, goal setting is imperitive and tracking what your doing is just as important! If you don't know where you are you don't know where your going!

This is not just a challenge of body fat loss it is a transformation into making yourself much better than where you currently are. To get leaner, more toned, more speed to your run for a better time and a stronger body for a record best lift. Breaking out of all plateus is attainable with some hard work.

I encourage you and I Welcome YOU to join me starting August 1st for our next 90 Day Challenge to eat cleaner and to add more fitness into your life! We will have much more blog posts during this related to the challenge for more tips and motivation.

Anything is possible, the goal is your sail and your actions of hard work is the wind that will push you towards your destination of transformation!

What can you do in 90 Days? Not what would you LIKE to do but what CAN you do? Without Challenges there is no growth that is the basis of all living things. I want to hear from my friends that participated before and from the one's that will accept this challenge that starts on August 1st! If you ever have a question enter it in the comment section below or email me here, Dave's Email. I hope you'll join me and always remember to keep

Turn it Up!

Good Morning, Afternoon or Good Evening wherever you may
be! Thank you for stopping by today and I hope this finds you in good spirits! I want to share with you today a quick review on our
90 Day Challenge as it is coming to a close with about a week left to go! If your not familiar with it see our previous post on the Living out Louder 90 Day Challenge.

My weigh in on Monday came in at 190lbs which I was elated as
I started this transformation weighing at 225lbs. So the body fat is now melting off and I have at an estimated 12-15lbs of body fat more to burn off! As the picture above suggests Life is a Stereo
Turn it up to 10. That's something I truly believe in. And as you all know I am a big sucker for quotes!

A great way to Turn it up is by working! Yes, working on your goals whatever they may be. Whether it's on your own transformation which by the way the next 90 Day Challenege starts
on August 1st! But yes working on your goals, the only way to get any sort of confidence in ANY area is by getting some sort of success. And to get some success is by working. Cultivate a No Quit attitude and your percieved denials will will only be delays!
That is the cornerstone of anyone that has acheived anything and that is by working at their goals and not quiting. When I was first learning the guitar I remembered a great quote from icon Jeff Beck and he stated that I really fell in Love with the guitar when it started talking back to me! That has stayed with me, I whought Wow  how true is that, so yes at first something may yeild no results but with action taken consistently y6our goals will start talking back to you!

So it's a compound effect going on the more results that you see, the more confidence you have to continue down the path that you are travelling. Don't give up, I promise with a committed attitude you will see results. So turn it up to 10 and don't look back
a stronger you mentally and physically is waiting just around the corner!

I want to thank you for stopping by today. I do hope that this may have helped you on your journey! Has there been any examples in your life that you have wanted to quit but didn't and chose to turn it up? Please share in the comments below with the rest of us here so we may all learn and get inspired! Always remember to keep....

Living out Louder 90 Day Challenge... Update Day 68

Thank you for stopping by our site today, I sure appreciate it. The heat and humidity is still with us
but I'm not one to complain, I love the summer months.
Today I wanted to share a quick update on our 90 Day Challenge, it is currently Day 68 as of this writing with
22 more to go!

A lot of you have joined me on this journey and I cannot say enough how much strength and perseverance
you have given me just by sharing your story with me! I
first started this back on February 1st to give myself goals and a deadline of sorts to give myself more motivation. Back on May 1st I started the next 90 Day Challenge and asked all of you to join me on this journey!
Thank you goes to each and every one of you! This has also held me accountable and there is no looking back!

Currently since Febuary 1st I have
lost a total of 31 pounds of body fat!
Weighing in at 225lbs, I am now at 194lbs! Now I know its not all about the scale and what your number may be but I had a lot to lose and still have some to get rid of! The belt has been getting a lot tighter and I'm back into my old pants and shirts that I could no longer wear since my lay off due to injury and illness.. Thank goodness I kept them, I did swear to myself that I WILL fit back into them!

If I had to say just one thing that can melt the body fat off of you, that
would be to eliminate the sugar in any way possible! I no longer take it in my coffee,  heck I don't even add cream anymore! Once you have a large amount of sugar your insulin level rises and your body turns it all into fat! So eliminate it in any way that you can!

So there's 22 more days left and I have this extra focus and excitement to finish this off strong! Now of course what happens when its over? The next one begins! That's on August 1st and I hope you'll join me on that one too!

I want to Thank You again for taking the time today to read this post, I do hope that it had helped you on your journey in some way!
Remember to keep..

Create your own Story....

Good Morning, Afternoon or Good Evening wherever you may be! One of the main topics I was thinking heavily on while I was
away during my vacation (week long hospital stay) was something
that I touched upon before hand but finally had revealed it's true
meaning to me. There was a term used by self help guru Tony Robbins called "what is your story?" What are the things you keep
telling yourself about who you are and how you got there? People
throughout the seminar were sharing their story and as you can
imagine it is one that was typically negative especially in respect
to what is holding them back and to move forward.

I thought it was a powerful piece of technology if turned around
into a positive one as it was suggested and I tucked it away in the
back of my mind for future use. As I was on vacation I revisited
this piece of technology because for a very brief short of time I
was going to give up, give up on getting back into a life of Health and fitness. Repeatedly asking myself "How ironic it is, the guy
that is writing and promoting about having an active lifestyle is in
the hospital because of it?!"

A Favorite quote of mine.

Then I thought of a favorite quote of mine (see above) and of
all the people who have encouraged me and have also taken on
their own journey of Health and Fitness. I couldn't let them or me
down, not now. That's when Tony Robbins piece of technology
came to me, "What's your story?" That's when I said to myself
"What's my story?" My story is going to be one that continues to
encourage a life of Health and Fitness by leading by example and
to end my 90 Day Challenge on a High Note! Now more than ever
has is not been more important to me to eat cleaner and to lead an
active lifestyle! To also continue to share this message to each and
every one of you!

Morning Mass...

I know I've been away for a couple weeks, some of you may
or may not know I was in the hospital for a week and as of this
writing I'm still not cleared to do any strenuous exercise for one
week when my Doctor gives me the okay! While I was in there
though I was doing a lot of thinking and writing down those ideas.
Now with the title of this post and the image you see above may
look like this could be a religious post and it is of sorts.

While I was in the hospital I had to make it a point to go walk
around to get strength back into my legs. What I had by the way was Rhabdomyolysis in my calf's and some in my hamstrings. So
initially walking was very difficult at best! I made it a point to go
walk the hallways to get strength back into my legs because
before you know it you are just bed ridden. I also made it a point
upon waking is to do some calisthenics to remain positive and
focused on a complete recovery. Albeit these were modified as
I was hooked to an I.V around the clock.

I have carried over the ritual that I would do upon waking
up in the morning and have added on to it. When I wake now I
am as always drinking two glasses of water and take my vitamins
and other supplements. (This is a great time if your forgetful to -
take them.) Brew my coffee but while that is going on I am now
adding those morning calisthenics! This is not some barn burning
calorie melter.  But it is a great way to shake off the rust and
get your blood pumping and most of all add more focus while
you enjoy your coffee and breakfast and decide what you will
tackle for the day!

What did I do? They are a simple combination of moves strung
together done one after the other. Jumping jacks, push ups and
sit ups. Do five of each and and would repeat this cycle three
times. It really adds a lot of focus you in an active mindset. Do
you need some motivation in the morning?

I invite you to come to Morning Mass with me!

Upon waking get your two glasses of water down, take your
vitamins and anything else like fish oil. While your coffee is
brewing start the Morning Mass exercise of jumping jacks,
push ups and sit ups! Please stretch before hand and modify
these as necessary, add or subtract any of the reps and sets!
I would love for you to join me in this especially my friends
that are part of the Living out Louder 90 Day Challenge!

The Golden Hour.. After Exercise, Maximizing Gains!

Today's post is a subject that really needs to have a
spotlight put upon it. We're eating cleaner, we're adding
exercise and we're taking our vitamins but there is a
special time that is often overlooked that can yield
faster results in our efforts to become a much better you!

After Exercise is often called The Golden Hour.
That is because (now bear with me, we may get technical)
our Clycogen stores are down and Protein Synthesis is
starting it's process. Tissue and muscle breakdown is
occurring and the body needs to repair itself! Whether
you are an endurance athlete or trying to increase muscle
mass you run the risk of missing out on a profound
Anabolic potential to help you maximize gains!

So what can you do to take advantage of this? Eating
some quality proteins and some carbs, yes even a whole
white bagel is good at this time as it will aide in rushing our
protein to our starving muscles. Fish, Turkey and eggs are
great sources of protein! But by the time we end our
workouts and get home to cook our window of opportunity
may have already shut! Once insulin resistance sets in
at around 2 hours you have the potential for net muscle
mass loss! All that hard work in the gym absolutely lost
because optimum nutrition has once again been
underestimated for it's potential to stimulate in terms
of Glucose and protein synthesis (muscle repair!)

There is a much faster way to take advantage of this
Golden Hour! Drinking a high protein drink will get
the results that we are after. Especially when you have
to shoot straight to work after your gym time! So what
we would want is Whey Protein which digests the fastest
and will give our muscles a much needed bloodbath of
Protein, amino acids and minerals it needs to repair itself!

So I hope this shined a light on something that you
may not have known about or reminded you of something
that you needed to add back in. I also hope that you also
Maximize Gains in everything you do, each and every day!
By the way you can get your Protein and everything
health and fitness related right here on our site at the
Living out Louder aStore. We're also on Pinterest and
Facebook do hope you stop by there as well. Always

The Truth, No more White Lies! (You are not alone)

Many people need desperately to receive this message:
"I feel and think as much as you do, Care about many of
the things you care about, although most people do not care
about them. You are not alone."
Taken from Timequake, Kurt Vonnegut's last novel.

How many times have you said to yourself I know I should
eat better, I know I should start exercising? Yet have still not
have taken the first step? How many times have you convinced yourself that now is not the right time? How many of these
White Lies have you told to yourself?

1. I will eat better tomorrow! (yet tomorrow never comes)
2. I have a very slow metabolism.
3. I'm just big boned.
4. I'm to old.
5. I'm not fat! (skinny or heavy, flab is flab)
6. Hiding what's really there while in the mirror.
7. Adding another layer of clothes, hoping no one will notice?
8. I will start exercising tomorrow!
9. I just can't do it!
10. I am what I am, Why bother?

If you have told yourself any of the above, the time has
come to stop lying to yourself. These are white lies that we
tell to ourselves to allow us to get off the hook, so as to not
hold ourselves accountable. Yet you are not the only one
who's in Club Denial. I myself have spent many times in and
out of there. It's a great place to get lost in where no effort is
involved until you realize you truly are lost.

Yet, You are not alone, I have struggled as you have. I
have convinced myself of the same White Lies. Your struggle
is my struggle. We are all connected in one way or another.
Random no more, with intention and desire and with purpose
the Truth will blaze a new path of freedom!
